The media in Southern Kaduna has been given a pat on the back for being alive to it’s responsibility of information dissemination especially as it concerns Government developmental policies and programmes.
The Executive Chairmen, Jemaa and Kaura Local Governments, Comrade Yunana Markus Barde and Mr Siman Mathias respectively, showered the accolades while separately playing host to the Management of Salama Radio who paid them a courtesy call on Monday at their various offices in Kafanchan and Kaura.
Speaking in his office at the Local Government Secretariat in Kafanchan, the Council Chairman, Comrade Markus Barde, called for more synergy between government and the media to help the people keep track of government’s policies and projects for constructive criticisms.
He lamented that in spite the presence of media organizations in Southern Kaduna, the people do not adequately utilize it to follow trends and make meaningful contribution to governance.
On his part, the Chairman of Kaura Local Government Area, Mr. Siman Mathias, hailed Salama Radio for living up to expectations by serving as a bridge between the government and the governed despite challenges.
Mathias pledged the Local Government’s support towards people-oriented programmes of the Radio station, which he said would create more awareness about the area, clear misconceptions, and propel it to enviable heights.
Earlier, the Head of Station, Salama Radio Kafanchan, Mr. Richard Pius Garba, said the visits were meant to explore avenues for more collaboration with Local Governments as key stakeholders.
Mr. Garba noted that as the tier of government closest to people at the grassroots, it was necessary for them to take advantage of media presence in the area so as to showcase government’s projects and get the requisite feedback from the people.
He also appealed to the Local Government Chairmen to operate open door policies especially to members of the press, and added that Salama Radio has programmes tailored towards carrying everyone along.
