The People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state has described as awful for the Labour Party in the area to ask the PDP and its House of Representatives candidate, Architect Gideon Lucas Goni not to seek redress in court after the February 25 National Assembly election that was marred by fraudulent activities.
The party stated this in a statement signed by the Kaura Local Government PDP, Chairman, Mr. Donatus Shamang and made available to Salama News on Saturday.
The statement also described the position of the Labour Party as mundane, which borders on emotion and blackmail rather than facts and reality.
The reaction by the Kaura PDP followed an earlier press statement by the Kaura branch of the Labour Party last week in which it urged the Kaura PDP and its candidate, Architect Goni to withdraw a case filed at the election tribunal challenging the victory of Mr Mathew Donatus as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Kaura Labour Party in the press statement also called on stakeholders to prevail on Architect Goni to accept defeat and allow the sleeping dog to lie as it was the choice of the people.
But the PDP in it’s statement described the call by the Labour Party as dead on arrival because, it lacks basis and constitutional backing aside from the insult, blackmail and threat to everyone, especially Samuel Atung, SAN, who is defending the PDP.
The PDP stressed that anyone that breaches the law will certainly be made to face its full wrath, as according to the Party, the judiciary is part of the electoral process.
The PDP added that if the Labour Party is asking the PDP to withdraw the case against Mr Donatus, it should also demonstrate the same spirit by urging Mr Peter Obi and Mr Mike Ayuba Auta to equally withdraw their court cases.
While citing many instances, the PDP noted that court cases are not alien in Kaura Local Government Area and called on security agents to take note of the threats by Kaura wing of the Labour Party.
It also categorically noted that the PDP declined to concede defeat after the February 25 election due to widespread irregularities, particularly over voting and ballot stuffing in some wards.
