A one day workshop aimed at equipping media practitioners on Nigerian Tax Administration has underscored the need for the public to always pay their taxes as and when due to avoid sanctions.
The workshop which held on Tuesday in Kaduna, was organized by the Afropolitan Media Limited in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
In his presentation on understanding rudiments and importance of taxation in Nigeria, the resource person, Mallam Maruf Ibraheem Ajibola challenged the public to see tax as not just a civic responsibility, but also a legal responsibility of the citizen.
He urged the media to always be in the vanguard of sensitizing the public on the importance of paying their tax obligations to guarantee development within and around them.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, Afropolitan Media Limited, Hajiya Aisha Umar Halilu, appreciated the participants for the enthusiasm shown towards the program, which she noted will translate to success.
She pointed out that the workshop also aims to bring participants up to date on current challenges faced by tax authorities like the FIRS and the importance of the media reporting these challenges ethically and responsibly for the education of the taxpaying public.
Salama News reports that the program which is tagged “the role of the FIRS in driving nations tax administration for nation building”, drew representatives of different media organization’s operating in Kaduna State.
