Against the backdrop of opposing comments by Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state in his Thursday 16th Feb, 2023 statewide broadcast in respect of the Naira redesign policy, Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU says he should be investigated.

Recall that Governor El-Rufa’i, in the broadcast alleged that the
naira redesign policy was a plot to stop the 2023 general election in the country and in its place, an interim government installed.

El-Rufa’i also called on citizens of Kaduna state to disregard the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari, insisting that the N500 and N1000 notes are still legal tenders in the state, contrary to the position of the Federal Government.

But a press statement signed by Spokesman of SOKAPU, Mr Luka Binniyat and made available to Salama News questions Governor El-
Rufa’i’s newly acquired position of champion of the oppressed even with what the statement describes as his morbid hate for Southern Kaduna in words and actions which is already documented for generations to study.

The statement says if Governor El-Rufa’i has such goodwill towards the people of the state why has he not approached the Supreme Court to prevail on the federal government to wipe out the so-called bandits that have taken over a large portion of Kaduna state, who, it also said have created their own government under his watch.

The statement adds that the Governor, who has attained notoriety for snooping and disrespecting court rulings that ordered him to stop certain actions against citizens, does not have the moral justification to approach any court of law on behalf of the same citizens who are still under the jackboot of his suppressive policies.

The statement alleges that contrary to what Governor El-Rufa’i wants people to know and believe, his most important concern is the flow of raw cash for seamless spendings during the upcoming elections.

SOKAPU maintains that if the inconveniences and sufferings caused by the naira redesign policy is truly to stop vote buying and other criminality during the upcoming elections, it is an inconvenience that its people will bear as they cannot afford to take the risk of not electing credible leaders.
