As the 2023 general elections continue to gather momentum, leaders of the two major religions in Southern Kaduna under the auspices of the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association, SKCLA, and the Southern Kaduna Council of Ulama’a have signed a commitment pact to a violence free elections.
The move according to a memorandum of understanding, MOU, signed by the leaders of the two groups on Monday in Kafanchan, Apostle Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure and Chief Imam Muhammad Kassim followed series of engagements and resolve by both Christians and Muslims in the area to live in peace with one another in spite provocations.
The groups noted that even if crisis erupts in other parts of the country, the people have resolved to jointly ensure that it does not consume Southern Kaduna and their members are not involved.
A copy of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), made available to Salama News, reaffirmed that anyone who attempts to aid outsiders create or start a crisis, will have their members to contend with because of their resolve to protect the land from both external and internal trouble before, during and after the 2023 General Elections.
The religious groups also urged on her members not to allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians who do not have the interest of the people at heart, rather they want to divide the people along religious lines for their selfish desires.
They however, challenged Pastors and Imams in Southern Kaduna to begin to send the messages on peaceful elections during their sermons.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
In Support of
A CRISIS-FREE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS
IN SOUTHERN KADUNA
Between
SOUTHERN KADUNA CHRISTIAN LEADERS ASSOCIATION
and
SOUTHERN KADUNA COUNCIL OF IMAMS & ULAMAA
PURPOSE
1. Having identified stakeholders (Christians and Muslims) committed to the promotion of peaceful co-existence among communities in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria, the above leaders do undertake to sign this MOU as a mark of their commitment towards sustaining peaceful coexistence for progress before, during and after the February/March 2023 General Elections.
2. By working together at both the strategic and operational levels, the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association and Southern Kaduna Council of Imams and Ulamaa with their members, collectively and individually, agree to ensure that we will have a crisis-free 2023 General Elections. Noting that even if crisis erupts in other places we will jointly ensure that it does not consume Southern Kaduna and our members are not involved.
3. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), therefore, articulates the participants’ shared objectives in support of a Crisis-Free 2023 General Elections in Southern Kaduna, and their respective undertakings. ANYONE who attempts to aid outsiders create or start a crisis, we will jointly release our members to protect the land from both external and internal trouble before, during and after the 2023 General Elections.
4. This MOU is meant to serve as a REMINDER of the commitment of the undersigned in support of a CRISIS-FREE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS in SOUTHERN KADUNA. It also establishes a basis for ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the participants, so that future interventions and areas of mutual interest may be brought under this framework.
5. WE CALL ON ALL OUR MEMBERS TO BE VIGILANT AND TO ENSURE A PEACEFUL AFTERMATH DURING THE FORTH COMING GENERAL ELECTIONS!
